Getting to know Angelica.

A sacred plant across cultures. Reflected in her name - Angelica archangelica and her statuesque presence when she flowers.

Full of volatile oils, angelica root is pungent, bitter, sweet, oily, warm and stimulating. Angelica stimulates the appetite and raises blood sugar. She also opens blood circulation, so nutrition is brought to all parts of the body, particularly fatty deposits to insulate nerves, more fluid in the joints and more blood flow to the extremities and uterus.

Angelica vapours are used in sweat lodges and she's a diaphoretic, so there are physical and spiritual parallels to this statuesque queen that simultaneously clears the head, lowers blood pressure and elevates you energetically, facilitating connection with your higher self and the angelic realms.

Good morning... I have a little studio space near home @fishfactoryarts. I'm their fishy instagram guest today and sharing some posts about my work that I thought I'd shared here on my timeline too for those followers that don't yet know me so well. I'm an artist and herbalist based in Penryn with a wee workspace at the Little Fish. This time of year I'm spending most of my time outdoors harvesting plants for medicine in the wild and growing them in my garden. Here're some snaps of my adventures hunting for burdock root.(The tattoo art is valerian leaf.) A workplace hazard getting the sticky burrs tangled in your hair... And then success this spring digging up the fat roots 😊. Burdock is an amazing detoxifying herb to clean the blood and lymph. It is a great friend if you need to shift deep seated skin conditions as it supports the liver and also has anti microbial and anti fungal properties. I will be chopping up the roots to make an alcahol extract from them. I educate folk about herbal medicine through teaching and art. You can find me @bellebenfield.
