You know how it is – you look at all the pretty You know how it is – you look at all the pretty pictures of food in your cookbooks, but the food you cook in your own kitchen is never as vibrant and interesting as what you see in the pictures. That's because looking in books and reading is not enough, have to DO it to embody it. Join me for 4 hands on practical medicine sessions to get us through the winter months. Even though the plants are dying back, root medicine gives us the chance to connect deeply with the earth through the winter. Here's how we will roll: - 4 evening sessions over the winter months. - The first session is an introduction to herbalism and root medicine. You will have the opportunity here to lay out your intention for the winter months ahead. - Each following session will focus on one herb. - Before each session, you will get the herb to drink for 7 days. - Each evening workshop will include medicinal and scientific information about the herb along with a recipe and a ritual for you to use at home. - You'll leave able to identify winter medicine and with the knowledge of how to make your own medicine. The dates: 7pm-9pm WEDNESDAYS: Oct 25th, Nov 15th, Dec 6th, Feb 21st. I love harvesting yarrow at this time of year beca I love harvesting yarrow at this time of year because it feels like a special last gift from the summer before the changing of seasons and the darkness grows. You can find yarrow in lawns and meadows, along coast paths and in parks - it's quite a popular garden plant. And as you can see from the photos, it's easy to identify with its feather-like leaves. Sacred across Europe and with many medicinal uses. Yarrow is your friend in fever, helping the body to perspire and so facilitating your body's immune response. Traditionally combined in a tea with mint and elderflower to help your body deal with fevery colds and flu. I make an infused oil which can be rubbed over the heart and third eye for psychic protection. A beautiful day at loveland last weekend celebrati A beautiful day at loveland last weekend celebrating flowers. We made a marshmallow flower essence. Althea officinalis is native to the salt flats of Europe and has flourished in the loveland medicine garden in a field that flanks the salty Penryn River. It even self seeded in our compost pile! We we spent time observing the softness of marshmallow, her velvety leaves a signature of her soothing gentle medicine. Marshmallow leaf is wonderful anti-inflammatory medicine for the kidneys and the urinary tract. Her roots are incredibly mucilaginous and this cooling, soothing slime mucilage is medicine for inflamed tissue. Good to take a slimy brew of marshmallow root for conditions such as peptic ulcers, heartburn, sore throats and mouth ulcers. On Saturday, we infused her flowers in spring water warmed by glorious sunshine to make a flower essence. Marshmallow flower essence softens rigidity; perhaps a harsh inner critic, or stubborn or narrow-minded thinking. We set the intention to bring gentleness into ourselves wherever it is needed. Such an honour to work with this beautiful plant that has blessed the medicine garden with her abundant flowers. Thank you marshmallow. Thank you Loveland. A little herbal admin this morning. Blending dried A little herbal admin this morning. Blending dried nettles in my coffee grinder. I then have a jar of nettle powder to add to my food... Mostly porridge and pancake batter, sometimes soups and stews. It's a great way to get the super powers of nettles into my 3 year old daughters diet 😉...
