Description
The frogs feet are marshmallow leaves ( Althea officinalis ), the mallow that favours moist, marshy soils, the mallow that brings us soothing, cooling mucilage to bathe our mucous membranes and reduce the heat of inflammation. The mullein ( Verbascum Thapsus ) on the frog’s back is a herb whose sponge-like leaves bring hydration into our tissues. Can you spot the nettle ( Urtica dioica ) leaves? – another nourishing herb that supports kidney function.
Frogspawn is a sign of spring remembered from childhood. The anticipation of watching the nubs of legs appear and grow into legs that take the frog beyond their watery birthplace and on into life’s adventure is a perfect metaphor for spring’s promise.
The promise of a fresh start, the promise that work done in preparation in the shadows will produce flourishing growth. Spring is the birth, the crossing of the threshold, the stretch, the flow, the opening to possibility. The promise of light after dark.
Spring speaks of faith, spring is hope, spring is the spiral alchemy of growth. She always returns weaving the past into something new and nourishing.
